Introduction: Sustainable urban development is a critical challenge in urban management. Presently, Iranian cities grapple with environmental degradation, excessive energy consumption, and economic and social disparities. The intricate nature of urban systems, coupled with the interplay of diverse factors, has given rise to multifaceted challenges. Focusing on urban development components with an emphasis on green production offers a promising pathway to achieving sustainable urban development. This research investigates how these components interact to foster balanced urban development in Gachsaran, utilizing complexity theory as its analytical framework.
Iranian cities, like many in developing regions, are experiencing rapid population growth and urbanization, placing immense strain on natural resources and infrastructure. Gachsaran, an emerging urban center, exemplifies these issues, necessitating innovative strategies for resource management and sustainable growth. Green production, which prioritizes environmental sustainability and resource efficiency, emerges as a potential solution. By applying complexity theory, which examines dynamic and interdependent relationships within complex systems, this study seeks to unravel the interconnectedness of urban development elements and their collective impact on sustainability.
The Purpose of the Research: The primary objective of this research is to explore the equilibrium between urban development components and job creation, with a focus on green production within the intricate framework of sustainable urban systems. It aims to propose strategies for aligning and harmonizing these dimensions to promote sustainable urban development in Gachsaran. Green production not only mitigates environmental harm and reduces energy use but also generates employment opportunities and bolsters the local economy. This study strives to provide actionable insights for urban planners and policymakers to advance sustainability goals in Gachsaran by analyzing these interrelationships.
The research underscores the importance of balancing economic, social, and environmental priorities. By integrating green production into urban planning, it seeks to address pressing challenges such as pollution and unemployment while fostering long-term resilience. The application of complexity theory allows for a nuanced understanding of how these factors influence one another, paving the way for holistic strategies tailored to Gachsaran’s unique context.
Methodology: This study relies on library resources, credible academic articles, and questionnaires as its foundation. It adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, blending quantitative and qualitative methods. The target population consists of 37 urban management experts in Gachsaran, whose insights were gathered via questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics in SPSS26 and interpretive structural modeling in SmartPLS. These tools enabled a robust examination of variable relationships, ensuring the reliability and scientific rigor of the findings. The dual software approach enhanced the depth and accuracy of the analysis, offering a comprehensive view of the data.
The methodology reflects a systematic effort to bridge theoretical frameworks with empirical evidence. the study captures both the measurable impacts and the underlying dynamics of urban development components, providing a well-rounded perspective on their interactions.
Findings: The results reveal that urban economy components exhibit a positive and significant relationship with urban development, contributing 59/4% its enhancement. This suggests that strengthening the urban economy can substantially drive development efforts. Additionally, urban development positively and significantly influences job creation and green production, with impacts of 3/5% and 67%, respectively. This highlights urban development’s pivotal role in promoting green initiatives. Furthermore, job creation positively and significantly affects green production by 57/3%, indicating a strong interdependence among these elements. Together, these findings illustrate a synergistic system where improvements in one area amplify progress in others.
These relationships underscore the potential of integrated urban planning. Economic vitality supports development, which in turn fosters employment and sustainable practices, creating a virtuous cycle of growth and environmental stewardship in Gachsaran.
Conclusion: Based on expert opinions, the most critical components of urban development include urban services, democracy, and the cultural-social dimension. Among these, the green production approach exerts the greatest influence on urban development, positioning it as a cornerstone of sustainability efforts. The proposed modeling optimizes the balance among these three components economy, development, and green production demonstrating that complexity theory in urban management serves as an effective and essential tool for achieving sustainable development goals. By accounting for the dynamic, non-linear interactions within urban systems, this theory equips policymakers with a framework to navigate complexity and implement impactful solutions.
The study’s findings and modeling offer a roadmap for Gachsaran’s urban managers to harmonize development priorities.
